In April, platform workers from around the world gathered for the first time in California to set up their international organization. Today, they issued a unified statement in support of the Palestinian people against apartheid and racism.
The Statement:
Platform workers from around the world stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people
The International Congress of Gig Workers, involving unions, groups, and worker collectives from four continents, express our solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination. We call for an immediate ceasefire to end the genocide taking place in Gaza and prevent further loss of life in the region.
As workers, we stand in solidarity with the thousands of workers, children, women, and men who are enduring brutal violence and a genuine catastrophe. Likewise, we condemn all forms of antisemitism and Islamophobia.
We reject the occupation, displacement, state violence, apartheid, and threats of genocide that the Palestinian people have faced for 75 years, and which are brutally escalating at present, with serious concern about the situation in Gaza and the repression in the West Bank.
We make an urgent call for a ceasefire and join our fellow labor movement colleagues in Palestine in demanding an end to the world governments’ funding of the war and arming of the state of Israel.
We uphold the right to a free Palestine, where all peoples can live in peace.
