SiTraRepA (the grassroots Union of App-Based Delivery Workers in Argentina) is demanding official recognition. They organized a major mobilization outside the Ministry of Labor last May 28.

In their call for the action, the union stated:

“From SiTraRepa, the first union of app-based delivery workers, we are calling on all delivery workers to mobilize this Wednesday, May 28, at the Ministry of Labor to demand recognition of our union, to fight for labor rights for all delivery workers, to say out loud ¡stop labor abuse!, and to demand justice for our fallen colleagues—those who died working under the pressure of the apps, like the young delivery worker Daiana, who suffered a fatal workplace accident on March 22 in Carapachay.”

Belén D, Secretary of SiTraRepa, declared:

“We are once again at the gates of the Ministry of Labor to demand the recognition of SiTraRepa. We began the legal process to register the union—which now has over 2,000 members nationwide—in June 2021.

In July 2024, the National Directorate of Trade Union Associations gave a favorable technical report recommending SiTraRepa’s registration, confirming that the union met the required membership criteria and that our statutes are legally sound. But since then, the process has been shelved, blocking thousands of workers from having their own union recognized to fight for their rights.”

“The economic and social crisis is hitting delivery workers especially hard, with falling incomes that force us to work longer and longer hours, without any labor rights, and exposed to abuse and work-related accidents for which the companies take no responsibility. That is why official union recognition is essential—it would give us a collective tool to organize and fight for our rights.”

The union’s mobilization was called under the following slogans:

“We demand recognition of SiTraRepa so we can have an organization that defends our interests, helps us organize, allows us to fight for all our labor rights and for recognition as workers. Stop precarization. Stop labor abuse. Justice for Daiana.”
